Aon Benfield and FMB launch latent defects insurance product

Build Assure, a trading name of the National Register of Warranted Builders, a subsidiary of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), the largest trade association for the SME sector in the UK construction industry, today launches a new insurance product which protects its members and general developers against financial loss arising from latent defects in new build properties.

The product, Build Assure New Home Policy, offers up to £10 million contract value per property protection and, for the first time, is not targeted solely at larger developments.

It is available to all FMB members and general developers, and can even be purchased in relation to single properties, making it ideally suited to the high net worth (HNW) individuals sector.

The product has been structured by Aon Benfield and is underwritten by Lloyd’s of London insurer Argo Syndicate 1200, and Swiss Re.

The latent defects product provides market-standard cover to policyholders, with the additional benefit of a 12-month liability period in relation to structural defects. It

Dangerous Dog Breeds

My family has had a German Shepherd for almost 12 years now. She’s a wonderful dog. Her name is Bella (no, she isn’t named after the girl from Twilight), and she is a sweetheart.

German Shepherds have the uncanny ability to look brilliant. Like, brilliant to the level of being able to buy groceries and defuse bombs upon command. Bella is the same way. Her ears stand erect, her posture is vigilant, and her overall demeanor commands respect and epitomizes courage.

At least, that’s what she looks like. As her family, we know that Bella is afraid of cats, poodles, most birds, fireworks, thunder, the sound the heater makes as it’s turning on, and anyone going more than thirty seconds without petting her. Basical

Sri Lanka: Aviva NDB records 42% growth in revenue in the first quarter

Aviva NDB Insurance recorded a significant growth in consolidated group revenue amounting to LKR 2,731 million during the first three months ended 31 March 2010. This reflects a growth of 42% over the corresponding period in 2009. Total gross written premium income of LKR 2,080 million recorded a growth of 34% compared to the previous year reflecting a successful transformation of the company and its sales force who are now known as “Wealth Planners”.

The commendable top-line performance of the group was largely driven by the 33% growth in Life insurance and 36% growth in general insurance business compared to the corresponding period in 2009. The group reported a loss of LKR 80 million which was attributed to brand migration investment.

Insurers Among “Most Admired” on Fortune’s List

Fortune Magazine’s list of the 50 Most Admired Companies only includes one insurer, Berkshire Hathaway, at No. 7. However, the news outlet ranked insurers separately in their own categories: “Property and Casualty,” “Life and Health” and “Health Care: Insurance and Managed Care.”
