Calif. prevention program has little effect on worker injuries, fatalities

OAKLAND, Calif.—California’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program has had little impact on reducing worker injuries and fatalities in the state, according to a report from the California Commission for Health, Safety and Workers’ Compensation.

The commission released a draft of the study Thursday. The IIPP program, implemented in 1991, requires California employers to create a written safety plan that addresses safe work practices, employee safety training and procedures for correcting hazards, among other provisions.Two-thirds of IIPP violations in California involve employers who did not have or implement a written safety plan, the commission said. A great New Year’s resolution insurance brokers often make is to grow their business. They can do this rather quickly by acquiring books of business from other brokers who are selling their books.

Use Your Due Diligence. The first differentiating factor between a profitable book and a non-profitable one is doing your homework and assessing its attrition level. As James Hilton explained in an earlier article in this series, the attrition level is the number of clients that are retained once the transition from the old broker to the new broker is completed.

The Need For Student Medical Malpractice Insurance

Are you intent on taking up the medical profession by enrolling in one of the most successful medical schools or colleges? Medical malpractice insurance has become a must these days thanks to the growing number of law suits against medical students that inadvertently commit mistakes while attending on patients during their internship. York Risk Services Group acquires JI Companies

York Risk Services Group, a provider of a full range of claims administration and risk management services, has acquired JI Companies to continue its commitment in the public entity market.

Through the acquisition, York Risk is planning to further expand its services to governmental agencies in the US.

JI Companies provides workers’ compensation, liability, property and nonsubscriber claims/risk management services, as well as pool administration to more than 480 public and private self-insured entities in Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, with a particular focus on public entities.

Under the transaction, all of JI Companies’ employees will be joining York, including its management team, led by Francis Fey, JI’s president and CEO.

York Risk Services Group executive vice president Rick Taketa said taht the JI Companies acquisition demonstrates York ‘s commitment to important markets in Texas , Oklahoma , Nebraska and the Southwest.

“With our combined business, we are able to provide a complete suite of risk management and insurance solutions to our customers, whether they are public entities, commercial interests or carriers.
